Quote of the Week

On August 1, 1858, Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous House Divided speech in Springfield, Illinois, offering words that would become one of the most enduring statements in American history.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." – Abraham Lincoln

With these words, Lincoln warned that a nation deeply divided could not endure indefinitely. Speaking during one of the most consequential periods in our nation's history, he called on Americans to confront the challenges before them with courage, conviction, and a commitment to preserving the Union.

Lincoln's message remains a powerful reminder that America's greatest strength has always been its ability to come together in pursuit of a common purpose. Though our nation has faced moments of profound disagreement throughout its history, our enduring commitment to freedom, unity, and self-government has allowed us to overcome even our greatest trials.

As we reflect on the anniversary of this historic speech, we remember President Lincoln's steadfast leadership and the timeless principle that our nation is strongest when we work together. His words continue to inspire Americans to seek common ground, uphold our democratic institutions, and preserve the unity that defines the United States.

In both Washington and across eastern North Carolina, I have had the opportunity to meet with constituents, small business owners, farmers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to hear directly about the issues that matter most to you. From the rising cost of everyday necessities to strengthening our local economy and improving access to healthcare, I remain committed to advancing commonsense solutions that deliver real results. It is an honor to represent North Carolina's Third District in Congress, and I will continue working every day to ensure our communities and our nation remain strong and prosperous.

I will continue fighting for the values of North Carolina's Third Congressional District. If you wish to stay more engaged and aware of what is happening in Washington and our District, please follow me on my social media accounts linked above or here: Instagram, X, Facebook, and YouTube.

Casework Win of the Week

Resolving IRS Error

A Carteret County constituent contacted my office after receiving notice from the IRS that they owed more than $6,200 in interest because their tax return had been incorrectly deemed late.
My office worked directly with the Taxpayer Advocate Service to review their case and resolve the issue. As a result, the erroneous interest charges were removed from their account, and the problems they had experienced with the IRS were successfully resolved.
Team Murphy is proud to help Eastern North Carolinians navigate the federal government and ensure they receive the assistance they deserve

Meeting with Lundbeck President

I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Tom Gibbs, President of Lundbeck, to discuss the company's work developing innovative treatments for patients living with rare neurological diseases.

As a physician, I understand the importance of fostering an environment that encourages medical innovation while ensuring patients have access to the therapies they need. We discussed the current policy landscape, the importance of continued investment in research and development, and the unique challenges facing manufacturers developing treatments for rare and complex conditions.

Thank you to Tom for taking the time to share Lundbeck's perspective. I look forward to continuing the conversation on policies that support innovation and improve outcomes for patients.

Hosted Iceland Caucus Reception

I was honored to co-host the inaugural Congressional Iceland Caucus reception and welcome Members of Congress, distinguished guests, and Her Excellency Ambassador Svanhildur Holm Valsdóttir.

The United States and Iceland have built a strong partnership through decades of cooperation, trade, innovation, and shared democratic values. From expanding economic opportunities to advancing medical innovation and strengthening people-to-people connections, there is tremendous potential to deepen the relationship between our two nations.

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Iceland Caucus, I am committed to strengthening the longstanding friendship between the United States and Iceland and advancing policies that benefit both of our nations. I look forward to continuing this important work and building on the strong foundation of our partnership.

National Wellness Month

f

August is National Wellness Month, a time to focus on the habits that help us live healthier, happier lives.

Good health starts with making wellness a priority. Whether it's staying active, eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, managing stress, or scheduling preventive care, small daily choices can have a lasting impact on our overall well-being.

As a physician, I know that prevention is one of the most effective tools we have to improve health and reduce the burden of chronic disease. Taking time to invest in your physical and mental health benefits not only you, but also your family and your community.

This National Wellness Month, I encourage everyone across Eastern North Carolina to make their health a priority, support one another in living healthy lives, and take advantage of the many resources available to help build a stronger, healthier future.

Happy National Wellness Month!

Sincerely,
Greg Murphy Signature
